Why Image Optimization Matters

Unoptimized images are the #1 reason websites load slowly. A smartphone photo is 4-5MB. Your website should show it at 200-300KB. That's a 90% reduction with no visible quality loss. Optimized images = faster website = more conversions.

How to Optimize Images

Use TinyPNG or TinyJPG

Free online tool. Drag and drop your images. They compress 50-80% automatically. Download compressed versions. This is your easiest solution.

Use ImageOptim (Mac) or FileOptimizer (Windows)

Download one of these free programs. Batch-process all your website images at once. Much faster than using an online tool for multiple images.

Reduce resolution before uploading

Your 4000x3000 photo doesn't need to be that large. Resize to 1200x800 before compressing. This saves more space.

Use appropriate formats

JPG for photos. PNG for graphics with transparency. WebP for modern browsers (better compression). Avoid BMP and TIFF on websites.

Rename images for SEO

Don't: IMG_2314.jpg. Do: coffee-shop-interior.jpg. Search engines read filenames. Descriptive names help SEO.

Tools Recommendation

For simplicity: TinyPNG.com (works online, no download needed). For bulk processing: ImageOptim on Mac, PNGGauntlet on Windows. Both are free and fast.
